Lucky Charm Mini Quilt

Lucky Charm Mini Quilt ©Copyright 2025 Belinda Karls-Nace/Blue Ribbon Designs, LLC http://www.blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com
Greetings friends! I am a couple days late with this post - I truly had the best intentions, but life has been busy and a bit chaotic - so here we are, a little bit later than planned. It is new project tutorial day - time to share my February project created for the Therm O Web blog with you. I always enjoy putting on my Fabric Education Designer hat and creating new projects/tutorials to share. For the month of February, the blog is focused on home décor, runners and toppers, HeatnBond Sparkle Paste, appliqué, and machine embroidery. I created a brand new project that was posted on Monday - it is a complete project tutorial for my Lucky Charm Mini Quilt. My comprehensive tutorial contains a complete supply list, printable pattern with templates, and step-by-step directions with color photos.

With St. Patrick's Day right around the corner, I thought it would be fun to make a mini quilt to spruce up my home décor. I have had the idea for a rick rack rainbow for quite some time and I was excited to execute my plan. I am really happy with the results - the rick rack added great dimension and the Sparkle Paste added shimmer and shine to the shamrock. Plus, I was able to use a pile of green fabric scraps from my bin for a scrappy patchwork border.

You will be surprised how quickly this seasonal project comes together. It is perfect for using up those scraps and small pieces of fabric. For this post, I used HeatnBond Sparkle Paste, HeatnBond Pressing Paper, HeatnBond Lite Iron-On Adhesive, HeatnBond Fusible Fleece, HeatnBond Tear Away Stabilizer, SpraynBond Basting Adhesive Fabric Spray and HeatnBond Fabric Fuse PeelnStick Fabric Adhesive Tape. I also used beautiful hand-dyed rick rack from (my favorite) Lady Dot Creates. Visit the tutorial post for a complete and detailed supply list.

Patchwork in the Heart Quilt Pattern

Patchwork in the Heart ©Copyright 2025 Belinda Karls-Nace/Blue Ribbon Designs, LLC http://www.blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com
Greetings friends! Thanks to your wonderful feedback on my last post, I have written a quilt pattern for "Patchwork in the Heart." A wonderfully scrappy mini quilt that can be used as a wall hanging or table topper. This quilt measures a manageable 24.5" W x 24.5" H and the pattern includes tips for making it larger or smaller. The pattern contains comprehensive/detailed instructions with all sorts of color diagrams...and it includes basic instructions for fusible machine appliqué. This 8-page pattern is designed to easily use scraps or your favorite fabric collection - it is mini charm pack friendly, and is good for all skill levels. You can find this new design in my Etsy Shop, in both paper and digital format...

I designed this quilt for a Poppie Cotton Valentine's Day feature. This month Poppie Cotton is spotlighting their fabric ambassadors with projects from the heart. Many of you know that I have been blessed to work with Poppie Cotton for years and have created with almost every single collection they have released...so I came up with a special project to highlight a large selection of prints. One of the things I love about this quilt is, it can be as planned as you want OR as scrappy as you want (like I made mine). I used pink and red fabric scraps from almost 40 Poppie Cotton collections, along with 3/8 Yard Country Confetti (Marshmallow New White CC20190) for background and 1/4 Yard Country Confetti (Cotton Candy Dark Pink CC20181) for binding - plus HeatnBond Fusible Fleece, HeatnBond Lite (fusible web) and backing. I used HeatnBond Tear-Away Stabilizer Sheets to stabilize my heart blocks during the appliqué process...and SpraynBond Basting Spray to baste the backing in place for quilting. Visit my YouTube Channel for a short video tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/mxWtxlYbeqo

You can also find the exact supplies I used (including the black wrought iron quilt hanger) by visiting the feature post in my Amazon Shop (note, as an influencer, I earn from qualifying purchases).

Thank you so much for visiting with me today and checking out my latest quilt pattern. I will be back soon with a peek at a new cross stitch model...and a seasonal project tutorial that I just completed for Therm O Web.

For now, I am back to the studio...I am working on a plethora of new designs and ideas. Of course I will be celebrating the Super Bowl tomorrow (well, actually later today - this crazy night schedule) with close friends...rooting for our local Kansas City Chiefs! Since my birthday always falls on or near Super Bowl Sunday, we will be celebrating my birthday (a few days early) at our Super Bowl party and having cake! 🎂 If our Chiefs can pull off the 3-peat, the parade will take place on my birthday...fingers crossed! I'll be wearing my number 10 jersey tomorrow for good luck...🏈💛❤️

"Patchwork in the Heart" Mini Quilt

Patchwork in the Heart Mini Quilt ©Copyright 2025 Belinda Karls-Nace/Blue Ribbon Designs, LLC http://www.blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com
Greetings friends - happy February! You are visiting on a great day - I have a heart-filled project to share with you…my "Patchwork in the Heart" scrappy mini quilt. Poppie Cotton is sharing Valentine projects this month while spotlighting their fabric ambassadors....and if you follow them on social media, then you are aware that today the spotlight is on me.😊 Many of you know that I have been blessed to work with Poppie Cotton for years and have created with almost every single collection they have released...so I came up with a special project to highlight a large selection of prints.

“Patchwork in the Heart” measures 24” x 24” and every single fabric in this quilt is unique. There isn’t a pattern, I just made it up as I went along – a pattern could definitely be created, if there is some interest (drop me a note or comment if you would like to see me write a pattern).  I cut 2.5” squares from all the pink and red prints from at least 36 different Poppie Cotton Collections - there are 144 prints represented in this quilt, plus Country Confetti for the background and binding. I made 36 4-Patch blocks, cutting half of them into hearts for fusible appliqué – then alternated the appliqué blocks with the remaining 4-Patch blocks. It is kind of an “I Spy” quilt of Poppie Cotton fabrics. I added hanging tabs…or it can be used as a table topper.

I think I cut 182 unique 2.5” red and pink prints, so I had a few remaining squares that I used to create this cute project bag. I made another appliqué heart block and inserted it into the patchwork. I used a cheerful Poppie Cotton pink daisy print on the back, with a white zipper and pink zipper pull.

There will be a reel on my Instagram page that shows the assembly of my mini quilt…with a longer version on my YouTube channel...look for these on Wednesday evening.

I hope you have been inspired by this mini quilt, stitched with love, and filled with Poppie Cotton history. Thank you for visiting and sharing my passion for all things created with needle and thread!♥️

Sparkling Sunflowers Mini Quilt

Sparkling Sunflowers Mini Quilt ©Copyright 2024 Belinda Karls-Nace/Blue Ribbon Designs, LLC http://www.blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com
Greetings friends! It is new project tutorial day - time to share my October project created for the Therm O Web blog with you. I always enjoy putting on my Fabric Education Designer hat and creating new projects/tutorials to share with you. For the month of October, the blog is focused on last-minute Halloween projects, holiday gifts, and fall decor. I created a brand new project that was posted yesterday - it is a complete project tutorial for my Sparkling Sunflowers Mini Quilt. My comprehensive tutorial contains a complete supply list, printable pattern with appliqué templates, and step-by-step directions with color photos.

This autumn decor project (suitable for year-round display) is perfect for using up scraps and good for beginners. What makes it "sparkling?" For this tutorial I used a brand new product - HeatnBond Sparkle Paste by Jennifer Long of Sew a Story. If you are familiar with my projects, then you know that I am not necessarily a "glitter or sparkle" type of girl...but this product has changed my stance! This magical paste can be applied with a paintbrush or a palette knife to add sparkle and shine to ANY fabric or felt…and after curing, it won’t flake off. I now *need* Sparkle Paste in all 14 colors - seriously. It applies so easily and you can control exactly how much glittery shine you want. I applied the Sparkle Paste to the sunflower petals and that added shine is PERFECTION. I hope you will stop by the Therm O Web blog and check out my project and tutorial...

This is an easy, fall project that can definitely be a scrap buster...make it as planned or as scrappy as you like! It combines easy appliqué shapes on a solid background. For this post, I used HeatnBond Sparkle Paste, HeatnBond Pressing Paper, HeatnBond Lite EZ-Print Iron-On Adhesive Sheets, HeatnBond Fusible Fleece and SpraynBond Basting Adhesive Fabric Spray. Visit the tutorial post for a complete and detailed supply list.

Calico Cowgirls Fabric Tour

©Copyright 2024 Belinda Karls-Nace/Blue Ribbon Designs, LLC http://www.blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com
Happy Monday - welcome to my stop on the Calico Cowgirls Fabric Tour - thank you so much for stopping by for a visit. I am thrilled to be sharing these bright and vivid fabrics from Poppie Cotton. I have a couple very special projects lined up, created with the new Calico Cowgirls fabric collection designed by Lori Woods for Poppie Cotton. I enjoyed putting on my quilt designer hat and playing with these colorful prints. This brand new fabric collection (shipping to quilt shops this month) has a happy and vibrant feel to me. As with all Poppie Cotton fabric lines, the entire collection is filled with tiny details and the sweetest little motifs. There are lovely florals, succulent strawberries, a whimsical paisley, and unique vintage wallpaper prints. The color palette is bursting with bright reds, pinks, corals, fuchsia, yellows, teals and purples - perfect for brightening up your project pile!

First, I created a fun and funky "Cheerful Chicken" mini quilt. Normally, a chicken quilt would be out of my comfort zone (and not really my style), but I challenged myself  and I couldn't be happier with the results. This project doesn't have a pattern - it was just me playing around in my studio. My happy chicken mini measures 12" x 12" and has rick rack around the perimeter. It is traditional piecing and machine appliqué. I used HeatnBond Lite Iron-On Adhesive to adhere my chicken shapes and used a machine blanket stitch to appliqué them in place. I adhered HeatnBond Fusible Fleece to the back of my mini quilt top, then quilted it before adding rick rack and backing fabric. I thought this tiny quilt turned out super cute!

Next, I thought this fabric collection would work perfectly with my Big Blooms Table Runner pattern. This patchwork and machine appliqué runner measures 24" x 64" and does a great job of showing off the 32 colorful prints in this fabric collection. It is fat quarter and 5" precut (charm square) friendly - perfect for this large assortment of fun prints. I used Country Confetti (also from Poppie Cotton) for the background and binding. This bold runner fits my large farmhouse table - it would also be a lovely bed runner or wall hanging. The pattern contains basic machine appliqué instructions, appliqué templates, and comprehensive/detailed instructions with all sorts of color diagrams.

Big Blooms Table Runner ©Copyright 2024 Belinda Karls-Nace/Blue Ribbon Designs, LLC http://www.blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com

I created this runner with a fat quarter stack of Calico Cowgirls - plus, ¾ yard Country Confetti (Marshmallow New White) for the background and ⅓ yard Country Confetti (Sea Glass Mint) for the binding. I used HeatnBond Lite Iron-On Adhesive, backing fabric and batting. The pattern gives a nice breakdown of materials, should you want to use a charm pack or precuts...or change fabric collections.

For more creative projects using the Calico Cowgirls fabric collection, visit the Poppie Cotton Blog. If you love this fabric collection, be sure to check out your favorite quilt shop and request it - Calico Cowgirls is shipping this month.

I already have my projects in progress for the next Poppie Cotton Fabric Tour in November - my day is November 12th. That tour will be showcasing the fabulous, upcoming "Home Sweet Home" fabric collection by Elea Lutz (click to see a preview). Plus, I will have a new project tutorial posted on the Therm O Web Blog on October 28th…so, be sure to stop back soon for more creative inspiration...

Projects Aplenty

©Copyright 2024 Belinda Karls-Nace/Blue Ribbon Designs, LLC http://www.blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com
Happy Thursday friends! It is another early morning (4:01 AM) and I thought I would quickly stop by for another visit. Today, I thought I would share with you a plethora of recent sewing projects for clients - project bags, zippered pouches and a large quilted retreat mat. It is always enjoyable to work with the fabulous fabrics my clients supply for their custom orders. I have been busy getting client orders complete, so I can focus on new design work...and sewing for my Etsy shop. I will have some new patterns and designs coming out over the next couple months and I need to make time to sit down at my desk and work on layouts and instructions....plus, I want to do some extensive design work for a few ideas floating around my sketchbooks. I have multiple upcoming fabric collections to work/design with for Poppie Cotton (collections for remainder of 2024 and into 2025!) and several Therm O Web Blog projects for the upcoming months. AND...a very dear friend recently sent/gifted me yardage (like ten plus yards!!) of Blackbird Designs sampler fabric (yes, I truly have incredible friends in my small circle!), which I am itching to create with for my shop...but some other things on my plate are taking priority for the next week or two. I am hoping to cut into it this coming weekend (if I am lucky!). Alright, I will stop babbling and get to the photos, so I can get back to my sewing studio...

While I am here, I just have to share this zipper photo I took - I order zippers by the hundreds (like 500 at a time!) several times a year - and here is a colorful photo I took of some of the latest order (the other bunches were of single colors, so not as exciting). I had to stock up, so I could work on more project bags and items for my Etsy shop...

Finally - here is another colorful photo I took of some hot air balloons flying over our small, rural neighborhood this past weekend. We have lots of large fields and open areas around us and hot air balloons can be seen often on postcard days. When I posted this photo on my Instagram story, one of my close friends said that the patterns on the balloons looked like quilt designs...I think so too! 💕
