Market Day Fabric Tour

©Copyright 2024 Belinda Karls-Nace/Blue Ribbon Designs, LLC http://www.blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com
Happy Wednesday - welcome to my stop on the Market Day Fabric Tour - thank you so much for dropping by for a visit. I am thrilled to be sharing these darling fabrics from Poppie Cotton! I have a very special project lined up, created with the new Market Day fabric collection designed by Amy J. Delightful for Poppie Cotton. I enjoyed putting on my quilt designer hat and playing with these soft and charming prints. This brand new fabric collection (shipping to quilt shops this month) has a warm and vintage feel to me. The entire collection is filled with tiny details and the sweetest little motifs. These soft-palette prints feature matryoshka (nesting) dolls, buntings, mini strawberries, doilies, flowery trellises and fabulous floral motifs. The colors are lovely shades of pink, blue, mint, red and white. I enjoyed doing some fussy cutting of these charming prints.

For this fabric tour, I focused on designing a new quilt pattern, which I call "Bunting and Berries." This quilt measures 50" x 50" and is a great throw or lap quilt size. It's the perfect size to snuggle up with in a recliner or on a sofa...or to take on a picnic...or to curl up with on a cool, outdoor evening. I wanted to create a fat quarter stack friendly pattern...and I wanted focus on the delicate prints in the collection. I enjoyed fussy cutting the centers of each star with a wonderful focal fabric (Nesting Dolls) and I cut the Bunting Prints to point towards the center of the quilt. It truly was a joy to create and put together. It is traditional piecing with Rising Star Quilt Blocks and Sashed 8-Patch Quilt Blocks (a simple quilt block I created for this specific project). One of the things I love about this quilt is, it can be as planned as you want (like I did the model with fussy cutting) or as scrappy as you want. You can find this new pattern in my Etsy Shop in both paper and digital format. See my blog post from yesterday for more details.

The next tour will be showcasing the "Painted Blossoms" fabric collection (click to see a preview). Plus, I am working on my next tutorial for Therm O Web (a collaboration project with Benzie Design!). I also have a few other projects up my sleeve to finish up before I travel out of the country in September...so stop back soon to see my latest creations...

Bunting and Berries ©Copyright 2024 Belinda Karls-Nace/Blue Ribbon Designs, LLC http://www.blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com
Yes, you read that title correctly - I have yet another new quilt pattern! This is my “Bunting and Berries" - a wonderfully sized lap or throw quilt. This quilt measures a manageable 50" W x 50" H. It's the perfect size to snuggle up with in a recliner or on a sofa...or to take on a picnic...or to curl up with on a cool, outdoor evening. The pattern contains comprehensive/detailed instructions with all sorts of color diagrams...and it includes coloring sheets for each block to easily adapt to your favorite fabrics, along with detailed instructions for Four-At-A-Time Flying Geese units. This 21-page pattern is designed to easily use your favorite fabric collection, is fat quarter friendly, and is good for all skill levels. You can find this new design in my Etsy Shop, in both paper and digital format...

I designed this quilt at the beginning of the year for Poppie Cotton using a fabric collection that is shipping to shops this month called Market Day. It was a joy to create and put together. It is traditional piecing with Rising Star Quilt Blocks and Sashed 8-Patch Quilt Blocks (a simple quilt block I created for this specific project). One of the things I love about this quilt is, it can be as planned as you want (like I did the model with fussy cutting) or as scrappy as you want (using up what you have on hand!).

My model was beautifully longarm quilted by:

Thank you so much for visiting with me today and checking out my latest quilt pattern. I will be back tomorrow for my turn on the Market Day Fabric Tour, where I will show more images of this special quilt.

For now, I am back to the studio...I am scrambling a bit right now to get things done before I leave for a trip to Paris and London in September. I have a lot to do in a very short amount of time...

Farmstead Finds - NEW Quilt Pattern

Farmstead Finds ©Copyright 2023 Belinda Karls-Nace/Blue Ribbon Designs, LLC http://www.blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com
Greeting friends - happy Friday! I am back today with yet another new quilt pattern release...yes, my friends, I have been quite busy this week, getting more new patterns written. I want to thank you for your enthusiastic response to my latest cross stitch and quilting designs - the kind words have been very encouraging.

This pattern has been a LONG time in the making. Those who know me well, know that I have wanted to convert many of my cross stitch designs and motifs to quilting patterns....this has been on my BRD bucket list for years! I have created a couple quilts from my cross stitch designs in the last year or two, but this is the first one I am releasing as a pattern for purchase. The special blocks in this quilt were created by converting four of my cross stitch motifs from some of my classic gameboard designs. I am calling this quilted wall hanging/throw quilt "Farmstead Finds."

Farmstead Finds ©Copyright 2023 Belinda Karls-Nace/Blue Ribbon Designs, LLC http://www.blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com

This quilt measures 42" x 42" and I added hanging pockets on the back to make it easy to display. I used a fat quarter stack of Prairie Sisters Homestead from Poppie Cotton, along with several Farmhouse Favorites (Country Confetti in Marshmallow White for the background and Country Confetti in Waffle Cone for sashing and binding...plus Gingham Picnic in Grass for the flower stems and strawberry hull)....but the pattern is written to use your favorite fabric collection. One of the reasons this pattern has been in the works for a few months is the amount of details and number of graphics I had to create - this pattern is 35-pages...yes, 35-pages of color images! Each block has step by step instructions and diagrams...and since it is all traditional quilting, I believe that even a beginner could tackle it. It is precut friendly and is great for fat quarters, charm packs and a small amount of yardage.

Thank you so much for visiting with me today and checking out my new quilt pattern. I will be back REALLY SOON to share another new cross stitch pattern release. Plus, I am long overdue for a post featuring all the fun finishes I have had lately. I am also putting the finishing touches on my December tutorial for the Therm O Web blog - it is a holiday project and will be posted on their blog on December 20th, just in time for last minute gifts. I also hope to have a newsletter ready to send in the next week...and if I can fit in in, a new FlossTube video...so stay tuned, more from BRD soon!

Geometric Gems

Hello friends - happy July! It's a hot and humid Iowa afternoon - the calm after the storm and flash flooding. I am just about ready to settle into my sewing nest for a marathon project bag session (the piles are overwhelming)...but before I get started, I thought I would quickly stop by and share some of my quilting designs. These six AccuQuilt patterns/projects were created as companion patterns for six cutting dies. For those of you unfamiliar with the AccuQuilt GO! Fabric Cutting System, every cutting die includes a free pattern in the packaging to help you get started. Each of my quilt designs shown below accompanies a corresponding AccuQuilt GO! Cutting Die...not only did I design each pattern, but I also created each sample. Today, I am sharing the projects I created for the GO! Circle-6", the GO! Circle-8", the GO! Strip Cutter-5" (4 1/2" Finished), the GO! Strip Cutter-3" (2 1/2" Finished), the GO! Strip Cutter-4" (3 1/2" Finished), and the GO! Rectangle-4 1/2" x 8 1/2" (4" x 8" Finished).

If you purchase the GO! Circle-6", inside the packaging, you will find a free pattern for the GO! Circle in the Square Wall Hanging. This unique, modern quilt uses basic patchwork and machine appliqué...and the sample uses lovely fabrics from the Mix Bag 2017 Collection by Studio M for Moda. It finishes at 40" x 40".

The GO! Circle-8" includes a free pattern for the GO! Petal Power Table Topper (which also works well as a wall hanging). Measuring 32" x 32", this cheerful project sample was created with Robert Kaufman Kona Cotton Solids. Blocks are created by sub-cutting the circles into quarters and using machine appliqué to apply them to basic patchwork - this design may look complicated, but it is actually obtainable for a beginner!

Inside packaging for the GO! Strip Cutter-5" (4 1/2" Finished), you will find a free pattern for the GO! X Marks the Spot Baby Quilt. This quick and easy baby quilt is the perfect gift for an expectant mother and would look great in a variety of fabric prints! For the sample, I used the Sew Cherry 2 Collection by Lori Holt of Bee in my Bonnet for Riley Blake Designs. With a finished size of 40.5" x 40.5", using basic strips and squares, this baby quilt can be put together in just a day or two...

If you add the GO! Strip Cutter-3" (2 1/2" Finished) die to your collection, you will find the free pattern for the GO! Mind Over Matter Table Runner inside the packaging. This is the perfect summertime table runner when using the same red, white, and blue color scheme as the sample (I used Andover Fabrics for the model). I can see this runner in a variety of holiday and seasonal fabrics. It measures 16" x 45", but could easily be adjusted to fit just about any length!

One of my favorites is the GO! Chains of Love Bed Runner that I designed for the  GO! Strip Cutter-4" (3 1/2" Finished). This comfy bed runner finishes at 42" x 84" and the sample was worked up with soothing Island Batiks. Rows could be added to make this a bed quilt...or subtracted to make this a table runner...and it would look lovely in solids or prints....

Finally, here is the GO! Give it a Whirl Throw Quilt that I designed for the GO! Rectangle-4 1/2" x 8 1/2" (4" x 8" Finished). This sunny lap quilt finishes at 48" x 64" and the sample was created with Robert Kaufman Kona Cotton Solids. You could easily add more blocks to this quilt to increase the size...and it would look great using a variety of fabrics. Although it may look complicated, it is quite easy to create with this large rectangle and can be pieced rather quickly...

All six of these AccuQuilt GO! Cutting Dies are quite versatile and would be nice additions to any collection. For more information on the GO! Fabric Cutter, GO! Cutting Dies, or other AccuQuilt products, visit their website: https://www.accuquilt.com/

On the Cutting Edge...

If you are a regular reader of my blog, then you know there is always a special project going on in my studio...and earlier this year I had my design hat on, creating a plethora of quilt blocks and projects for the new AccuQuilt GO! Qube Companion Sets. Now, I know these have been available for a few months, so you might already have seen all of this...but I have quite a few AccuQuilt enthusiasts that follow my blog....and so, better a little late than never. Plus I wanted to share what I designed/created for these versatile new die sets...

I'm sure you all remember my excitement when the GO! Qubes were released (if not, you can read my blog post here: https://blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com/2015/11/quilt-block-heaven-in-qube.html)...so you can probably guess that I was "over the moon" when AccuQuilt decided to release a GO! Qube Companion Set to coordinate with each size of GO! Qube - seriously, how cool is that?! The GO! Qube Companion Set-Classics is available in each of the four GO! Qube sizes: 6",  8", 9", and 12"....and is designed to expand the possibilities of what you can create with the existing GO! Qube Mix & Match Blocks. Each Companion Set includes four classic shapes labeled 9-12 (a continuation of the 1-8 die numbering system from the GO! Qube Mix & Match Blocks), a cutting mat, an instructional DVD, and a 20-page pattern booklet. Yep, it's pretty awesome! The four GO! Dies included in the GO! Qube Companion Set-Classics are:
  • GO! Chisels (Shape 9)
  • GO! Signature Block (Shape 10)
  • GO! Drunkard’s Path-Arc Shape (Shape 11)
  • GO! Drunkard’s Path-Quarter Circle (Shape 12)

The fun thing for me...I designed/wrote all the patterns for the GO! Qube Companion Set Classics-72 Block Pattern Booklets (for each of the four sizes)...and that includes the new Mix & Match block patterns included in each box! Plus I designed/wrote the pattern for the GO! Cutting Edge Throw Quilt (for each size) that is included in the Pattern Book in each set. I was pretty ecstatic to see the finished product when the sets were released! Right now, you can download both the GO! Qube Companion Set Classics-72 Block Pattern Booklets and the GO! Cutting Edge Throw Quilt patterns on the AccuQuilt website for free (yes, FREE!). Here are links and photos for each size...

It is always rewarding to share some of the projects I have had the pleasure of working on...it just took me a little time to get around to these. I hope you enjoy exploring the links and downloading the free patterns/booklets...and if you have a GO! Qube Companion Set, I would LOVE to see what you have been creating...

Tomorrow, I will be back to share another new pattern design that uses the GO! Qube Mix & Match 9" Block and the GO! Qube 9" Companion Set-Classics...a colorful sampler quilt!

"Qubed" Diamond Stars

Right before the fall quilt market, I was busy working with the four new (extremely versatile) AccuQuilt GO! Qubes (these are sets of cutting dies for the AccuQuilt GO! Fabric Cutter). I designed a simple Diamond Star Quilt that works well with each size of the GO! Qube and then made a sample of each. Today I am showing you each of these quilts...and telling you a bit about each one...

Before we get started - here is a little recap about the GO! Qube...  Each GO! Qube contains eight geometric dies that make cutting a wide variety of quilt blocks extremely easy...there is a GO! Qube Mix & Match 6" Block (creates 6" finished quilt blocks), a GO! Qube Mix & Match 8" Block (creates 8" finished quilt blocks), and of course, a GO! Qube Mix & Match 9" Block that creates 9" finished blocks and a GO! Qube Mix & Match 12" Block that creates 12" finished blocks. The geometric shapes in each set include: two squares (one larger, one smaller), two half square triangles (one larger, one smaller), one quarter square triangle, one square on point, one rectangle, and one parallelogram; you mix and match these basic geometric shapes to form an endless number of quilt blocks. For more details and a to see a selection of quilts blocks the GO! Qube can make, visit my post Quilt Block Heaven in a Qube.

Now on to my quilts...
The GO! Qube 6" Diamond Star Throw Quilt measures 48" x 60"...and the pattern includes instructions for a full size quilt (84" x 90") and king size quilt (108" x 96") as well. It uses three fabrics, the GO! Qube Mix & Match 6" Block, and a GO! Strip Cutter die for the binding. For this pattern in the throw size, you make 80 diamond star quilt blocks....

The GO! Qube 8" Diamond Star Throw Quilt measures 48" x 56"...and instructions are included for a full size quilt (88" x 88") and king size quilt (104" x 96"). It uses three fabrics, the GO! Qube Mix & Match 8" Block, and a GO! Strip Cutter die for the binding. For this pattern in the throw size, you make 42 diamond star quilt blocks....

The GO! Qube 9" Diamond Star Throw Quilt measures 45" x 63"...and it includes instructions for a full size quilt (81" x 90") and king size quilt (108" x 99"). It uses three fabrics, the GO! Qube Mix & Match 9" Block, and a GO! Strip Cutter die for the binding. For this pattern in the throw size, you make 35 diamond star quilt blocks....

...and finally, the GO! Qube 12" Diamond Star Throw Quilt measures 48" x 56"...and the pattern includes instructions for a full size quilt (88" x 88") and a king size quilt (104" x 96"). It uses three fabrics, the GO! Qube Mix & Match 12" Block, and a GO! Strip Cutter die for the binding. For this pattern in the throw size, you make 20 diamond star quilt blocks....

...and the GREAT news is, if you would like to make a GO! Qube Diamond Star Quilt, all four patterns are FREE to download for a limited time...simply visit one of the links below to download your favorite size(s)!
I hope you will make a GO! Qube Diamond Star Quilt of your very own - they work up quite quickly (especially the 12" block version, which only needs 20 quilt blocks!). Although I was working on a quick turnaround deadline with these quilts, I was able to make all four within two weeks...so you could easily make one in just a few days! Play with your favorite fabric colors and prints...and be sure to share your finished quilt(s) with me - I would love to see them...
