Patchwork in the Heart Quilt Pattern

Patchwork in the Heart ©Copyright 2025 Belinda Karls-Nace/Blue Ribbon Designs, LLC http://www.blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com
Greetings friends! Thanks to your wonderful feedback on my last post, I have written a quilt pattern for "Patchwork in the Heart." A wonderfully scrappy mini quilt that can be used as a wall hanging or table topper. This quilt measures a manageable 24.5" W x 24.5" H and the pattern includes tips for making it larger or smaller. The pattern contains comprehensive/detailed instructions with all sorts of color diagrams...and it includes basic instructions for fusible machine appliqué. This 8-page pattern is designed to easily use scraps or your favorite fabric collection - it is mini charm pack friendly, and is good for all skill levels. You can find this new design in my Etsy Shop, in both paper and digital format...

I designed this quilt for a Poppie Cotton Valentine's Day feature. This month Poppie Cotton is spotlighting their fabric ambassadors with projects from the heart. Many of you know that I have been blessed to work with Poppie Cotton for years and have created with almost every single collection they have released...so I came up with a special project to highlight a large selection of prints. One of the things I love about this quilt is, it can be as planned as you want OR as scrappy as you want (like I made mine). I used pink and red fabric scraps from almost 40 Poppie Cotton collections, along with 3/8 Yard Country Confetti (Marshmallow New White CC20190) for background and 1/4 Yard Country Confetti (Cotton Candy Dark Pink CC20181) for binding - plus HeatnBond Fusible Fleece, HeatnBond Lite (fusible web) and backing. I used HeatnBond Tear-Away Stabilizer Sheets to stabilize my heart blocks during the appliqué process...and SpraynBond Basting Spray to baste the backing in place for quilting. You can also find the exact supplies I used (including the black wrought iron quilt hanger) by visiting the feature post in my Amazon Shop (note, as an influencer, I earn from qualifying purchases).

Thank you so much for visiting with me today and checking out my latest quilt pattern. I will be back soon with a peek at a new cross stitch model...and a seasonal project tutorial that I just completed for Therm O Web.

For now, I am back to the studio...I am working on a plethora of new designs and ideas. Of course I will be celebrating the Super Bowl tomorrow (well, actually later today - this crazy night schedule) with close friends...rooting for our local Kansas City Chiefs! Since my birthday always falls on or near Super Bowl Sunday, we will be celebrating my birthday (a few days early) at our Super Bowl party and having cake! 🎂 If our Chiefs can pull off the 3-peat, the parade will take place on my birthday...fingers crossed! I'll be wearing my number 10 jersey tomorrow for good luck...🏈💛❤️

"Patchwork in the Heart" Mini Quilt

Patchwork in the Heart Mini Quilt ©Copyright 2025 Belinda Karls-Nace/Blue Ribbon Designs, LLC http://www.blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com
Greetings friends - happy February! You are visiting on a great day - I have a heart-filled project to share with you…my "Patchwork in the Heart" scrappy mini quilt. Poppie Cotton is sharing Valentine projects this month while spotlighting their fabric ambassadors....and if you follow them on social media, then you are aware that today the spotlight is on me.😊 Many of you know that I have been blessed to work with Poppie Cotton for years and have created with almost every single collection they have released...so I came up with a special project to highlight a large selection of prints.

“Patchwork in the Heart” measures 24” x 24” and every single fabric in this quilt is unique. There isn’t a pattern, I just made it up as I went along – a pattern could definitely be created, if there is some interest (drop me a note or comment if you would like to see me write a pattern).  I cut 2.5” squares from all the pink and red prints from at least 36 different Poppie Cotton Collections - there are 144 prints represented in this quilt, plus Country Confetti for the background and binding. I made 36 4-Patch blocks, cutting half of them into hearts for fusible appliqué – then alternated the appliqué blocks with the remaining 4-Patch blocks. It is kind of an “I Spy” quilt of Poppie Cotton fabrics. I added hanging tabs…or it can be used as a table topper.

I think I cut 182 unique 2.5” red and pink prints, so I had a few remaining squares that I used to create this cute project bag. I made another appliqué heart block and inserted it into the patchwork. I used a cheerful Poppie Cotton pink daisy print on the back, with a white zipper and pink zipper pull.

There will be a reel on my Instagram page that shows the assembly of my mini quilt…with a longer version on my YouTube channel...look for these on Wednesday evening.

I hope you have been inspired by this mini quilt, stitched with love, and filled with Poppie Cotton history. Thank you for visiting and sharing my passion for all things created with needle and thread!♥️

Bunting and Berries - NEW Quilt Pattern

Bunting and Berries ©Copyright 2024 Belinda Karls-Nace/Blue Ribbon Designs, LLC http://www.blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com
Yes, you read that title correctly - I have yet another new quilt pattern! This is my “Bunting and Berries" - a wonderfully sized lap or throw quilt. This quilt measures a manageable 50" W x 50" H. It's the perfect size to snuggle up with in a recliner or on a sofa...or to take on a picnic...or to curl up with on a cool, outdoor evening. The pattern contains comprehensive/detailed instructions with all sorts of color diagrams...and it includes coloring sheets for each block to easily adapt to your favorite fabrics, along with detailed instructions for Four-At-A-Time Flying Geese units. This 21-page pattern is designed to easily use your favorite fabric collection, is fat quarter friendly, and is good for all skill levels. You can find this new design in my Etsy Shop, in both paper and digital format...

I designed this quilt at the beginning of the year for Poppie Cotton using a fabric collection that is shipping to shops this month called Market Day. I wanted to create a fat quarter stack friendly pattern...and I wanted focus on the delicate prints in the collection. I enjoyed fussy cutting the centers of each star with a wonderful focal fabric (Nesting Dolls) and I cut the Bunting Prints to point towards the center of the quilt. It was a joy to create and put together. It is traditional piecing with Rising Star Quilt Blocks and Sashed 8-Patch Quilt Blocks (a simple quilt block I created for this specific project). One of the things I love about this quilt is, it can be as planned as you want (like I did the model with fussy cutting) or as scrappy as you want (using up what you have on hand!).

My model was beautifully longarm quilted by:

Leslie does an incredible job on my model quilts!

Thank you so much for visiting with me today and checking out my latest quilt pattern. I will be back tomorrow for my turn on the Market Day Fabric Tour, where I will show more images of this special quilt.

For now, I am back to the studio...I am scrambling a bit right now to get things done before I leave for a trip to Paris and London in September. I have a lot to do in a very short amount of time...

Farmstead Finds - NEW Quilt Pattern

Farmstead Finds ©Copyright 2023 Belinda Karls-Nace/Blue Ribbon Designs, LLC http://www.blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com
Greeting friends - happy Friday! I am back today with yet another new quilt pattern release...yes, my friends, I have been quite busy this week, getting more new patterns written. I want to thank you for your enthusiastic response to my latest cross stitch and quilting designs - the kind words have been very encouraging.

This pattern has been a LONG time in the making. Those who know me well, know that I have wanted to convert many of my cross stitch designs and motifs to quilting patterns....this has been on my BRD bucket list for years! I have created a couple quilts from my cross stitch designs in the last year or two, but this is the first one I am releasing as a pattern for purchase. The special blocks in this quilt were created by converting four of my cross stitch motifs from some of my classic gameboard designs. I am calling this quilted wall hanging/throw quilt "Farmstead Finds."

Farmstead Finds ©Copyright 2023 Belinda Karls-Nace/Blue Ribbon Designs, LLC http://www.blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com

This quilt measures 42" x 42" and I added hanging pockets on the back to make it easy to display. I used a fat quarter stack of Prairie Sisters Homestead from Poppie Cotton, along with several Farmhouse Favorites (Country Confetti in Marshmallow White for the background and Country Confetti in Waffle Cone for sashing and binding...plus Gingham Picnic in Grass for the flower stems and strawberry hull)....but the pattern is written to use your favorite fabric collection. One of the reasons this pattern has been in the works for a few months is the amount of details and number of graphics I had to create - this pattern is 35-pages...yes, 35-pages of color images! Each block has step by step instructions and diagrams...and since it is all traditional quilting, I believe that even a beginner could tackle it. It is precut friendly and is great for fat quarters, charm packs and a small amount of yardage.

Thank you so much for visiting with me today and checking out my new quilt pattern. I will be back REALLY SOON to share another new cross stitch pattern release. Plus, I am long overdue for a post featuring all the fun finishes I have had lately. I am also putting the finishing touches on my December tutorial for the Therm O Web blog - it is a holiday project and will be posted on their blog on December 20th, just in time for last minute gifts. I also hope to have a newsletter ready to send in the next week...and if I can fit in in, a new FlossTube video...so stay tuned, more from BRD soon!

Sunshine and Chamomile Fabric Tour

Sunshine and Joy ©Copyright 2022 Belinda Karls-Nace/Blue Ribbon Designs, LLC http://www.blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com
Happy Wednesday - welcome to the Poppie Cotton Sunshine and Chamomile Fabric Tour! I am thrilled to be today's stop on the tour - thank you so much for visiting. If you are a regular reader and you are wondering - yes, I am still in New Zealand....I wrote and scheduled this post before I left...so, while you are reading this, my New Zealand itinerary says I will be exploring the Nile River glowworm caves and hiking the Paparoa National Park today.

I have a very special lap quilt to share (and a little needlebook and project bag too!), created with the new Sunshine and Chamomile Fabric Collection by Poppie Cotton. I was thrilled to put on my quilt designer hat again and work with these bright and happy prints. This brand new collection (shipping to shops this month) features fabulous hexagon prints and gorgeous florals...all done in a cheerful color pallet. It was a joy working on this project, as I recently started converting my original cross stitch designs to quilting patterns (a dream of mine for a while) and this quilt features five blocks from my cross stitch design Comfort and Joy. Creating this quilt definitely made my heart smile! I combined my cross stitch chart title and the name of this fabric collection for the name of my quilt...so, without further ado...

 Sunshine and Joy

I titled my lap quilt (or wall hanging...or what I am going to use it for, a picnic quilt) "Sunshine and Joy" - this quilt was built around my original cross stitch design "Comfort and Joy" and a basic pieced quilt block. It was made with traditional piecing. Nine blocks make of up my lap quilt along with sashing and cornerstones - giving it a finished size of 47" x 47" and borders could be added to make it larger. I used a fat quarter stack and a little bit of Country Confetti (Marshmallow White) yardage for the background...and Gingham Picnic in Grass for the stems and Barnyard Bandana in Buckle Brown for the bird beak and legs. If there is interest, I will write a pattern for this happy quilt upon my return.

Upon completion of my quilt, I was compelled to work with some of my leftover fabric pieces and made the sweetest little needlebook with pockets inside...along with a small zippered project bag using one of the focal fabrics. Check out the Poppie Cotton Chicken Flower Charm zipper pull on the little project bag - isn't it CUTE?! I even fussy cut a little heart and appliqued it on the first wool page of the needlebook. An adorable little set for a stitcher...I may need to make more of these for special holiday gifts...

Woodland Songbirds Fabric Tour:
Singing Under The Stars

©Copyright 2020 Belinda Karls-Nace/Blue Ribbon Designs, LLC http://www.blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com
Happy Wednesday...and welcome to the Poppie Cotton Woodland Songbirds Fabric Tour! I am super excited to share the quilt I created with the new Woodland Songbirds fabric collection. I always enjoy putting on my quilt designing hat and working on a project with my own vision and ideas. I knew months ago when I first saw this gorgeous collection with tiny exquisite details that I would be making a quilt featuring singing birds. If you are a regular visitor to my blog, then you know how much I love to combine piecing and appliqué (and adding additional embellishments). Designing and creating this special quilt brought me an immense amount of joy - it is such a happy fabric collection!

"Singing Under the Stars"

My quilt design was created using EQ8 Software...I spent an afternoon playing around in the software and in my studio...and this was the result. I used two traditional quilt blocks - the Ohio Star and the Nine Patch...along with appliquéd top and bottom borders. I titled my quilt "Singing Under the Stars"...which just seemed to fit. I fussy cut the centers of the Ohio Star Blocks to feature some of the beautiful details in this fabric collection (the little birdies on the toadstools are EVERYTHING!). Most of the appliqué shapes were cut using a die cutting system…I used the fusible appliqué method and stitched them down with a Blanket Stitch. I utilized pearl cotton to hand stitch French Knots for the bird eyes…and attached a handful of coordinating buttons from my stash as flower centers. The results is a nice sized quilt measuring 45" x 60"...perfect for snuggling under on a dreary day!

There you have it - my quilt design using the Woodland Songbirds Collection by Poppie Cotton. This fabric line is in shops now, so be sure to check your favorite local shop or online shop to find these gorgeous prints. I used a Woodland Songbirds fat quarter stack along with yardage from the Poppie Cotton Country Confetti Collection for my background, backing and binding.

I hope you have enjoyed this stop on the fabric tour - thank you for visiting. Could you hear my heart singing as I worked on this piece?! I am already working on a project for the next Poppie Cotton Fabric Tour in January...it is for the upcoming Dots & Posies Collection...and I can't wait to share it with you...

For more projects from the Poppie Cotton Woodland Songbirds Fabric Tour, visit the Poppie Cotton Blog: https://poppiecotton.com/poppie-cotton-blog/, where each tour stop and project is featured (and there are some INCREDIBLE pieces!).

If you make a project from the Woodland Songbirds Collection featured in this post, I would love to hear from you...happy sewing and quilting!
