Prairie Christmas Fabric Tour

©Copyright 2024 Belinda Karls-Nace/Blue Ribbon Designs, LLC http://www.blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com
Happy Wednesday - welcome to my stop on the Prairie Christmas Fabric Tour - thank you so much for dropping by for a visit. I am thrilled to be sharing these wonderful holiday fabrics from Poppie Cotton! I have some very special projects lined up, created with the new Prairie Christmas fabric collection designed by Amanda Cocoron for Poppie Cotton. I enjoyed putting on my quilt designer hat and playing with these farm village Christmas prints. This brand new fabric collection (shipping to quilt shops this month) has a truly wonderful country vintage feel. The entire collection is filled with perfect details and the sweetest little motifs! These charming holiday farm prints feature a village spruced up with Christmas decor - there are scenes of people ice skating, a red tractor and a red barn with farm animals...there are pine boughs, pine cones, Christmas trees, holiday ornaments, snowflakes and stars…all done in a combination of greens, teals, reds, pinks and cream. The tiny details in this collection truly inspired me!

To start, I created a wall hanging that doubles as a table topper with pine tree appliqué blocks. I am calling this new design "Twinkling Tree Farm." The trees are machine appliqué, using a blanket stitch and I used all of the prints in this wonderful collection. This small quilt measures 24" x 24" and works perfectly as a small wall hanging or a table topper for my kitchen table. I used a fat quarter stack with each of the prints from this collection (a 5" precut pack would be suitable for the variety, plus a couple fat quarters)...and I used Country Confetti for the background and binding. The stars appliquéd above the large trees are Wool Blend Felt from Benzie Design in the color Bronze. I created this design while playing around in my studio and I am in the process of writing the pattern (it is almost complete).

Next, I made the cutest patchwork project bags - one small and one with a boxed bottom. I used each of the prints, cutting 2" squares (1.5" finished). I added color coordinated zipper pulls...I also added a fun selvage tag to the boxed pouch. I have a pile of fabric squares left on my studio table, so I plan to make a few more of these sweet little bags...

Finally, I created my usual pincushion. I knew I wanted to use little triangle scraps to make a mini tree. This pincushion measures 5" x 7.5" and is stuffed with fiberfill and sawdust shavings. I appliquéd 1" squares and 1" finished half-square triangles to create the tree. It is topped with a wool blend felt star, cut from the color Pampas from Benzie Design. I trimmed it with Hand Dyed Rick Rack from Lady Dot Creates and added a bunch of color coordinated decorative pins. This made the sweetest pincushion/bowl filler to add to my growing collection!

Sweet Tooth Fabric Tour

Halloween Star Quilt ©Copyright 2024 Belinda Karls-Nace/Blue Ribbon Designs, LLC http://www.blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com
Happy Monday - welcome to my stop on the Sweet Tooth Fabric Tour - thank you so much for dropping by for a visit. I am thrilled to be sharing such spooktacular fabrics from Poppie Cotton today! I have some very special projects lined up, created with the new Sweet Tooth fabric collection designed by Elea Lutz for Poppie Cotton. I enjoyed putting on my quilt designer hat and playing with these adorable Halloween prints. This brand new fabric collection (shipping to quilt shops this month) has a truly wonderful vintage feel. The entire collection is filled with perfect details and the sweetest little treats! There are prints featuring witches riding brooms, pumpkins, candy, kittens with bowties, black cats, ghosts, skeletons, stars, polka dots...and, of course, flowers…all done in a traditional vintage color palette. The tiny details in this collection truly inspired me!

To start, I created a wall hanging that doubles as a table topper with star appliqué blocks. The stars are machine appliqué, using a blanket stitch and I used all of the prints in this wonderful collection. This small quilt measures 25" x 25" and works perfectly as a small wall hanging or a table topper for my kitchen table. I used a fat quarter stack with each of the prints from this collection...and I used Jailhouse Stripes (Blondee Yellow) for the binding. I created the design, just playing around in my studio - I don't know if I will write a pattern for it - it depends on demand - leave a comment or send me a message if you would like to see me release a pattern…

Next, I made the cutest patchwork project bags - one large and one small. I used each of the prints, cutting 2.5" squares (2" finished). I added wool felt applique, designing/cutting out wool felt shapes that I thought worked well with the fabric prints (I used Wool Blend Felt from Benzie Design). I added color coordinated zipper pulls...I also added a fun selvage tag to the large project bag. I just may have to make a coordinating tote bag to hold these fun patchwork bags...

Finally, I started out creating my usual pincushion, but this one finished out a little larger, more like a small pillow. I knew I wanted to do a Dresden Plate variation to show off all the fabulous prints. I had a pile of 2.5" squares left from my patchwork bags, so trimmed them all to a wedge shape to create the blades, then used the Little Witch Black print for the center circle.  I added hand-dyed rick rack from Lady Dot Creates to complete the pillow. It measures 9" x 9" and is stuffed with fiberfill and sawdust shavings. This made the sweetest pillow/pincushion to add to my growing collection!

Nature Sings Fabric Tour

©Copyright 2024 Belinda Karls-Nace/Blue Ribbon Designs, LLC http://www.blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com
Happy Monday - welcome to my stop on the Nature Sings Fabric Tour - thank you so much for dropping by for a visit. I am thrilled to be sharing such lovely fabrics from Poppie Cotton today! I have some very special projects lined up, created with the new Nature Sings fabric collection designed by Lori Woods for Poppie Cotton. I enjoyed putting on my quilt designer hat and playing with these stunning prints. This brand new fabric collection (shipping to quilt shops this month) has a truly wonderful focal fabric - a bold floral. The entire collection shows a love of nature...and there is a print with the sweetest little birdies! Plus, there are prints featuring roses, daisies, lavender, and flower bunches…and a large gingham check print…all done in a soft, but striking color palette. The tiny details in this collection make my heart smile!

This Poppie Cotton collection brings me joy - it has a lovely springtime feel! I knew a table runner for my large farmhouse table was going to be in the works, along with a couple smaller projects. This month, for the runner, I didn't use a pattern - in fact, as usual, I just started playing around in EQ8 and made it up as I went along. I also whipped up a patchwork project bag and a whimsical pincushion.

To start, I created a table runner with alternating appliqué blocks...one with a circle appliqué and one with a flower appliqué. I decided to offset the rows to give it a modern feel. The table runner measures 48" x 18" and works perfectly for my kitchen table. I used a fat quarter stack with each of the prints from this collection...and a little bit of Country Confetti for the background, binding, and flower centers. I don't know if I will write a pattern for it - it depends on demand - leave a comment or send me a message if you would like to see me release a pattern…

Next, I made the cutest patchwork zippered pouch. I used each of the prints, cutting 2" squares (1.5" finished)...and added a color coordinated zipper pull...I also added a floral ribbon tag. This is a medium-sized project bag,  measuring 9" H x 9" W - perfect for a small pattern and materials.

Finally, I created a whimsical appliqué pincushion - I added hand-dyed rick rack from Lady Dot Creates and tiny 1/2" buttons...plus some abstract machine stitching. It measures 8" x 4" and is stuffed with fiberfill and sawdust shavings. I added some cute decorative pins from my collection, and viola - the sweetest pincushion to add to my growing collection!

Hide and Seek Fabric Tour

©Copyright 2023 Belinda Karls-Nace/Blue Ribbon Designs, LLC http://www.blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com
Greetings friends, happy Wednesday! I am so happy to be today's stop on the Hide and Seek Fabric Tour; thank you so much visiting with me. I really enjoyed playing with this whimsical, colorful fabric collection and have three projects to share with you. These were all created with the new Hide and Seek Fabric Collection designed by Kenzie Kae Elston (Snippets of Whimsy) for Poppie Cotton. I enjoyed putting on my creative hat and playing with these joyful prints. This brand new collection (shipping to shops this month) has the cutest bunnies, turtles, gnomes, butterflies and chickens playing "hide and seek" under a cheerful sun amongst fabulous florals…all done soft blues, corals, yellows and sage greens.

This Poppie Cotton collection brings me so much joy - it has a lovely Scandinavian feel to me! I knew a large table runner for my farmhouse table was going to be in the works, along with a couple smaller projects. This month, for the runner, I didn't use a pattern - in fact, as usual, I just started playing around in EQ8 and made it up as I went along. I also whipped up a patchwork project bag and pincushion scissor keep.

To start, I created a table runner with a large flowering bloom on either end. This runner is basic, traditional piecing with two focal blocks featuring machine appliqué. I am calling it "Big Blooms," which really says it all. It measures 64" H x 24" W and I specially placed the fussy cut blocks to be right side up, depending on your viewpoint from around the table. I also fussy cut the centers of the large blooms (see enlarged image below). I used a fat quarter stack of Hide and Seek, along with a Farmhouse Favorite (Country Confetti in Heavy Cream Cream) for the appliqué background. I quilted it myself on my domestic machine and it turned out even better than I envisioned. My "Big Blooms" table runner is currently adorning my dining room table and is making the room happy and inviting. I don't know if I will write a pattern for it - it depends on demand - leave a comment or send me a message if you would like to see me release a pattern (and yes, a pattern for my Poppie Cotton quilt "Farmstead Finds" is forthcoming)…

Next, I made the cutest patchwork zippered pouch. I used the I used the "Honey I'm Gnome" print in  natural (see below) as the focus across the bottom of the bag...along with a coral colored zipper and a baker's twine zipper pull. This is a medium-sized project bag,  measuring 11" H x 9.75" W - perfect for a half sheet pattern and materials.

Finally, I created a pincushion with a twill tape tie to attach my scissors. I also added a wool felt flower in the lower left-hand corner, attached with tiny pins in the center. This pillow pincushion measures 8.5" H x 3.5" W and was made by strip piecing leftover scraps onto fusible fleece. It is stuffed with fiberfill and sawdust shavings.

Garden Party Fabric Tour

Bunny Bouquet ©Copyright 2023 Belinda Karls-Nace/Blue Ribbon Designs, LLC http://www.blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com
Greetings friends, happy Monday! I am thrilled to be today's stop on the Garden Party Fabric Tour - thank you so much for stopping by for a visit. I had so much fun playing with this sweet, delicate garden collection and have a selection of projects to share...all created with the new Garden Party Fabric Collection designed by Sheri McCulley for Poppie Cotton. I enjoyed being creative and playing with these adorable prints. This brand new collection (shipping to shops this month) has the cutest bunnies, bluebirds, strawberries, gardening tools, and fabulous florals…all done in a cheerful color palette. This
Poppie Cotton collection brings me happiness and I knew a brand new wall hanging for my studio was going to be in the works. This month, for the quilt, I didn't use a pattern - in fact, I just started playing, using Sheri's design motif of a bunny in a watering can as inspiration. I also whipped up a patchwork zippered bag using my Pretty Posies Pouch pattern...and a couple cube pincushions...

To start, I created a wall hanging with a large, center, appliqué focal block...then I built on it with "square in a square" traditional blocks, fussy cutting the centers. The center block was created by adapting one of Sheri's motifs in her fabric collection and making it my own - I am calling it "Bunny Bouquet." It measures 30" x 30" and has hanging pockets on the back to make it easy to display. I used a fat quarter stack of Garden Party, along with several Farmhouse Favorites (Country Confetti in Marshmallow White and Cotton Candy)…plus a small amount of fabric from my stash for the stems and bunny appliqué). I quilted it myself on my domestic machine (stitch in the ditch and around the appliqué) and it turned out even better than I envisioned. "Bunny Bouquet" is currently hanging in my studio above my sewing machine table. I don't know if I will write a pattern for it, as I adapted some of Sheri's artwork - I would have to check with her, but leave a comment or send me a message if you would like to see me release a pattern for it (and yes, a pattern for my last Poppie Cotton quilt "Farmstead Finds" is forthcoming)…

Next, I made the cutest patchwork box-bottom pouch with wrist strap! I used my own pattern (Pretty Posies Pouch) and fussy cut some of the focal motifs in this lovely fabric collection. I used a light pink zipper with a white zipper pull tab...and the wrist strap and backing fabric are in the "Lovely Lattice" print from this collection.

Finally, I created a couple cube pincushions. These measure 3" x 3" x 2" and are so much fun to make! I love finding the perfect fabrics for the tops and sides. They are stuffed with crushed walnut shells...and the pins are from Puntini Puntini (my very favorite!).
