Frost and Flurry Fabric Tour

Frost and Flurry Projects ©Copyright 2025 Belinda Karls-Nace/Blue Ribbon Designs, LLC https://blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com/
Hello, friends—happy Wednesday!

I’m so delighted to welcome you to my stop on the Poppie Cotton Frost and Flurry Fabric Tour! ❄️✨ Thank you for popping by—it's always a treat to have you here.

Today, I’m thrilled to share four special pieces I created using the brand-new Frost and Flurry Collection by the talented Sheri McCulley for Poppie Cotton. As soon as I saw these whimsical winter prints, I couldn’t wait to put on my quilt designer hat and dive in!

This charming collection (shipping to quilt shops this month!) is filled with delightful seasonal motifs—think snowmen, reindeer, owls, foxes, ornaments, snowflakes, tossed flowers, and winter berries—all wrapped in a cozy palette of greens, reds, pinks, blues, and snowy whites. It’s the perfect mix of festive and heartwarming, and I had so much fun bringing these prints to life.

For my first project, I created a charming small quilt that also works beautifully as a table topper. Measuring 25 ½” x 25 ½”, this piece features a delightful mix of machine appliqué snowflake blocks and foundation pieced tree blocks, bringing a cozy winter scene to life. I used Country Confetti, one of Poppie Cotton’s lovely basics, for the snowflakes, tree backgrounds, and binding—it adds just the right touch of texture and whimsy. The quilt is finished with hanging tabs, making it perfect for display on a small quilt hanger or as a festive accent on your holiday table. I didn’t follow a pattern for this one—it was a fun, creative journey as I designed it along the way!

Next up, I stitched up two adorable project bags—one small and one medium—each with its own personality and charm!

The small zippered pouch measures 7 ¾" W x by 7" H and features sweet appliqué wool felt motifs across the bottom fabric strip, accented with hand-dyed rick rack trim along the bottom for a playful touch. I added a bit of whimsy with a baker’s twine zipper pull, giving it a handmade, homespun feel.

The medium zippered bag measures 9 ½" W x 9 ¾" H and is a cheerful patchwork design that showcases a variety of prints from the Frost and Flurry collection. For a fun focal point, I created an appliqué snow globe block in the lower right-hand corner using fussy cut fabric and Benzie Design Wool Blend Felt. Inside the globe, I added round and star sequins to mimic falling snow, along with some hand stitching for extra texture and sparkle. Like the smaller pouch, this one is finished with a baker’s twine zipper pull for a cohesive, handmade look.

Again, I didn’t follow a pattern for these zippered pouches—just played in my studio and let the fabrics guide the way!

And finally, I created a wintery twist on my Sweet Sewing Book—a cozy little sewing/needlebook that measures 6 ¼" x 6 ¼" when closed. For the cover, I designed another appliqué snow globe, using fussy cut fabric and wool felt, embellished with round and star sequins to mimic falling snow. A bit of hand stitching adds texture and charm, and the whole scene is framed with hand-dyed rick rack from Lady Dot Creates

Inside, the book features multiple pockets and two wool felt needle pages made from Benzie Design Wool Blend Felt, each decorated with sweet fussy cut fabric motifs. The scissor tie is made from hand-dyed twill tape (also from Lady Dot Creates), and the closure is finished with a vintage button and elastic loop for a nostalgic touch. As a fun detail, I included a tree needle minder inside, made using fabric from a previous Poppie Cotton collection. I also added the perfect decorative pins from (my favorite) Puntini Puntini.

Again, I didn’t follow a pattern for this one either—I designed it along the way.

Rosebud Manor Small Quilt

Rosebud Manor ©Copyright 2025 Belinda Karls-Nace/Blue Ribbon Designs, LLC http://www.blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com
Greetings friends! It's NEW pattern day...so let's talk about Rosebud Manor. I had so much fun designing a creating my new pattern "Rosebud Manor" - a small quilt perfect for a wall hanging or table topper. This mini quilt has foundation pieced quilt blocks around the perimeter and a machine appliqué block in the center.

Rosebud Manor measures 28.5" x 28.5" and is great for showing off a favorite fabric collection. The simple foundation pieced quilt blocks around the perimeter lend themselves to fussy cut centers - putting a spotlight on a favorite print. The center machine appliqué block uses a touch of rick rack for embellishment and a tiny 1/4" button for the doorknob.

For the model, I used HeatnBond Lite Iron-On Adhesive for the fusible web and I used HeatnBond Fusible Fleece instead of batting (choose your favorite!). I added two little ribbon hanging tabs for a wrought iron hanger, but your could add corner pockets or a sleeve for hanging.

I used gorgeous fabric prints from the Elise collection by Terri Henson for Poppie Cotton - this fabric collection is brand new and is shipping to quilt shops in June. The background and binding are Country Confetti - this basic collection is also from Poppie Cotton.

The pattern is extremely detailed with foundation blocks provided I even include instructions for foundation piecing and machine appliqué. The pattern is 27 pages and full of color images and photos for every step. You can find it in both paper and/or digital format in my Etsy Shop.

Elise Fabric Tour

Elise by Terri Henson for Poppie Cotton ©Copyright 2025 Belinda Karls-Nace/Blue Ribbon Designs, LLC http://www.blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com
Greeting friends - happy Monday! Welcome to the Poppie Cotton Elise Fabric Tour. I am thrilled to be today's stop on the tour - thank you so much for stopping by for a visit. You are here on a great day, because this month, my fabric tour post coincides with TWO new quilt patterns! I have three special projects to share, created with the new Elise Fabric Collection designed by Terri Henson for Poppie Cotton. I was super excited to put on my quilt designer hat and work with these charming prints. This brand new collection (shipping to quilt shops in June) has lovely rose, daisy, and trellis motifs, and a gorgeous quilted-look multi print...all done in a lovely color palette of reds, pinks, blues and whites. Let's take a close-up look at my projects...

For my first project, I created "Rosebud Manor" and you can find this NEW quilt pattern in my Etsy Shop in digital and/or paper format! This small quilt is perfect as a wall hanging or table topper. It measures 28.5" x 28.5" and uses foundation piecing for the Economy Quilt Blocks and machine appliqué for the "manor" in the center. I added some rick rack and a tiny button for embellishment.  Visit my blog again later today or tomorrow, when I will share more details.

Next, I created a "Pretty Patchwork Pouch" that shows off the Quilted Roses Multi print. It is a very sweet size, measuring 8” x 5.5”. I quilted over the lines on the fabric print to give it a pieced look. It is lined with Country Confetti, and I added a “handmade” wooden button and special red zipper pull. No pattern for this little zippered bag, I just made it up as I went along...

Finally, I created a "Sweet Sewing Book" (you may remember this project from the Wildwood Dwellings Fabric Tour). This project was so well received, I decided to write a pattern for it! You can now find the pattern from my "Sweet Sewing Book" in my Etsy Shop (paper pattern and/or digital pattern).  It measures 8.5” x 6.5” when closed. It has an elastic and button closure (I used a vintage rose button for this one!), with five pockets inside and Benzie Design wool blend felt needle pages (color is Icicle). I used hand-dyed twill tape (scissor tie) from Lady Dot Creates to add a special touch. I also added fussy cut/appliquéd fabric accents. The binding is Country Confetti (also from Poppie Cotton). More on this NEW pattern and additional photos will be posted later today or tomorrow.

Prairie Christmas Fabric Tour

©Copyright 2024 Belinda Karls-Nace/Blue Ribbon Designs, LLC http://www.blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com
Happy Wednesday - welcome to my stop on the Prairie Christmas Fabric Tour - thank you so much for dropping by for a visit. I am thrilled to be sharing these wonderful holiday fabrics from Poppie Cotton! I have some very special projects lined up, created with the new Prairie Christmas fabric collection designed by Amanda Cocoron for Poppie Cotton. I enjoyed putting on my quilt designer hat and playing with these farm village Christmas prints. This brand new fabric collection (shipping to quilt shops this month) has a truly wonderful country vintage feel. The entire collection is filled with perfect details and the sweetest little motifs! These charming holiday farm prints feature a village spruced up with Christmas decor - there are scenes of people ice skating, a red tractor and a red barn with farm animals...there are pine boughs, pine cones, Christmas trees, holiday ornaments, snowflakes and stars…all done in a combination of greens, teals, reds, pinks and cream. The tiny details in this collection truly inspired me!

©Copyright 2024 Belinda Karls-Nace/Blue Ribbon Designs, LLC http://www.blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com

To start, I created a wall hanging that doubles as a table topper with pine tree appliqué blocks. I am calling this new design "Twinkling Tree Farm." The trees are machine appliqué, using a blanket stitch and I used all of the prints in this wonderful collection. This small quilt measures 24" x 24" and works perfectly as a small wall hanging or a table topper for my kitchen table. I used a fat quarter stack with each of the prints from this collection (a 5" precut pack would be suitable for the variety, plus a couple fat quarters)...and I used Country Confetti for the background and binding. The stars appliquéd above the large trees are Wool Blend Felt from Benzie Design in the color Bronze. I created this design while playing around in my studio and I am in the process of writing the pattern (it is almost complete).

Next, I made the cutest patchwork project bags - one small and one with a boxed bottom. I used each of the prints, cutting 2" squares (1.5" finished). I added color coordinated zipper pulls...I also added a fun selvage tag to the boxed pouch. I have a pile of fabric squares left on my studio table, so I plan to make a few more of these sweet little bags...

Finally, I created my usual pincushion. I knew I wanted to use little triangle scraps to make a mini tree. This pincushion measures 5" x 7.5" and is stuffed with fiberfill and sawdust shavings. I appliquéd 1" squares and 1" finished half-square triangles to create the tree. It is topped with a wool blend felt star, cut from the color Pampas from Benzie Design. I trimmed it with Hand Dyed Rick Rack from Lady Dot Creates and added a bunch of color coordinated decorative pins. This made the sweetest pincushion/bowl filler to add to my growing collection!

Sweet Tooth Fabric Tour

Halloween Star Quilt ©Copyright 2024 Belinda Karls-Nace/Blue Ribbon Designs, LLC http://www.blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com
Happy Monday - welcome to my stop on the Sweet Tooth Fabric Tour - thank you so much for dropping by for a visit. I am thrilled to be sharing such spooktacular fabrics from Poppie Cotton today! I have some very special projects lined up, created with the new Sweet Tooth fabric collection designed by Elea Lutz for Poppie Cotton. I enjoyed putting on my quilt designer hat and playing with these adorable Halloween prints. This brand new fabric collection (shipping to quilt shops this month) has a truly wonderful vintage feel. The entire collection is filled with perfect details and the sweetest little treats! There are prints featuring witches riding brooms, pumpkins, candy, kittens with bowties, black cats, ghosts, skeletons, stars, polka dots...and, of course, flowers…all done in a traditional vintage color palette. The tiny details in this collection truly inspired me!

©Copyright 2024 Belinda Karls-Nace/Blue Ribbon Designs, LLC http://www.blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com

To start, I created a wall hanging that doubles as a table topper with star appliqué blocks. The stars are machine appliqué, using a blanket stitch and I used all of the prints in this wonderful collection. This small quilt measures 25" x 25" and works perfectly as a small wall hanging or a table topper for my kitchen table. I used a fat quarter stack with each of the prints from this collection...and I used Jailhouse Stripes (Blondee Yellow) for the binding. I created the design, just playing around in my studio - I don't know if I will write a pattern for it - it depends on demand - leave a comment or send me a message if you would like to see me release a pattern…

Next, I made the cutest patchwork project bags - one large and one small. I used each of the prints, cutting 2.5" squares (2" finished). I added wool felt applique, designing/cutting out wool felt shapes that I thought worked well with the fabric prints (I used Wool Blend Felt from Benzie Design). I added color coordinated zipper pulls...I also added a fun selvage tag to the large project bag. I just may have to make a coordinating tote bag to hold these fun patchwork bags...

Finally, I started out creating my usual pincushion, but this one finished out a little larger, more like a small pillow. I knew I wanted to do a Dresden Plate variation to show off all the fabulous prints. I had a pile of 2.5" squares left from my patchwork bags, so trimmed them all to a wedge shape to create the blades, then used the Little Witch Black print for the center circle.  I added hand-dyed rick rack from Lady Dot Creates to complete the pillow. It measures 9" x 9" and is stuffed with fiberfill and sawdust shavings. This made the sweetest pillow/pincushion to add to my growing collection!
