Lakeland Blues Fabric Tour

Floral Charm Table Runner ©Copyright 2025 Belinda Karls-Nace/Blue Ribbon Designs, LLC https://blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com/
Hello, friends—happy Tuesday!

I’m so excited to welcome you to my stop on the Poppie Cotton Lakeland Blues Fabric Tour! Thank you for stopping by for a visit—it’s always such a treat to have you here.

Today, I’m absolutely thrilled to share several special pieces I created using the brand-new Lakeland Blues Collection by the talented Samantha Walker for Poppie Cotton. As soon as I saw these stunning floral prints, I couldn’t wait to put on my quilt designer hat and dive right in!

🌿 About the Collection:

This delightful line (shipping to quilt shops this month!) is filled with gorgeous floral motifs—think hydrangeas, elegant roses, rose buds, damasks, and leafy diamonds—all wrapped in a dreamy palette of dusty blues, soft blues, deep country blues, and whites. ✨ It’s the perfect mix of elegance and heartwarming charm, and I had so much fun bringing these prints to life.

✨ Project 1: Floral Charm Table Runner

First up is my original Floral Charm Table Runner—a Blue Ribbon Design pattern available in my Etsy Shop (digital or paper format). It measures 52" W x 16" H, and the size is easily adaptable. This beginner-friendly project features all of the fabrics in the Lakeland Blues collection—a beautiful way to showcase the prints! 💐

✨ Project 2: Sweet Snacks Mug Rugs

Next, I stitched up two of my Sweet Snacks Mug Rugs ☕🍪—another Blue Ribbon Designs pattern available in my Etsy Shop (paper or digital format). Each measures 10” W x 7” H and combines traditional patchwork piecing with a touch of appliqué. Perfect for anyone wanting to dabble in machine appliqué! I thought these prints were perfect for teacups—they remind me of vintage delft blue teacups and saucers. 💙

✨ Project 3: Mini Patchwork Pouches

And—because I couldn’t resist—I created a couple of mini patchwork zippered pouches (no pattern this time, just pure creativity ✂️✨). Each one showcases every print from the collection, lined with Country Confetti fabric, and finished with navy zippers and zipper pulls. They measure 7” W x 4” H, with each sweet little square finishing at 1”.

Wildwood Dwellings Fabric Tour

Greeting friends - happy Friday! Welcome to the Poppie Cotton Wildwood Dwellings Fabric Tour. I am thrilled to be today's stop on the tour - thank you so much for stopping by for a visit. I have a couple special projects to share, created with the new Wildwood Dwellings Fabric Collection designed by Sheri McCulley for Poppie Cotton. I was super excited to put on my quilt designer hat and work with these soft, nature-filled prints. This brand new collection (shipping to quilt shops this month) has lovely deer, quail, fox and squirrel motifs, gorgeous florals, vintage-look blender fabrics, and fancy flower pots...all done in a soft color palette of pinks, blues, teals, and yellows...and you all know I LOVE a good nature-inspired collection! Let's take a close-up look at my projects...

If you stopped by yesterday, then you have already seen my Dresden Plate Table Runner. This runner measures 42.5" x 14.5" and is embellished with 3/4" rick rack around the center circles and perimeter. I didn't use a pattern, I just made it up as I went along...

Next is my "Sweet Sewing Book" (again, my own design, no pattern - just me playing in my studio). I created an oblong Log Cabin Quilt Block for the front and the back to feature the Deer Meadow Light Teal fabric print in the centers. It measures 8” x 6.5” when closed. It has an elastic and button closure, with five pockets inside and Benzie Design wool blend felt needle pages (color is Blush). I used hand-dyed trim (inside) and twill tape (scissor tie) from Lady Dot Creates to add a special touch. I also added fussy cut/appliquéd fabric accents. I inserted specialty pins from my very favorite Puntini Puntini and an ink on wood needle minder from Michelle Palmer. The spool thread bobbins are from my friend Ellie at TheBitsyBrocanteShop. Background and binding are Country Confetti (also from Poppie Cotton).

Inspired by my Dresden Plate Table Runner, I decided to create a large Dresden Plate project bag. This is one of my signature projects bags and it measures 14" x 14". I fussy cut the center circle and trimmed it with yellow rick rack. Background fabric is Country Confetti. I used a yellow zipper and zipper pull for a pretty accent.

Dresden Plate Table Runner

Dresden Plate Table Runner ©Copyright 2025 Belinda Karls-Nace/Blue Ribbon Designs, LLC http://www.blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com
Greetings friends! I am gearing up for my day on the Wildwood Dwellings Fabric Tour (I am scheduled for tomorrow) and I had so much to share, I decided to pop in early with one of my projects today. Wildwood Dwellings is a brand new fabric collection designed by Sheri McCulley for Poppie Cotton and these prints are chock full of nature motifs in Sherri's signature style.

When this collection arrived on my doorstep months ago, I knew right away I wanted to do a project with Dresden Plate quilt blocks...the Flower Pot focal prints stood out to me as being perfect for the center circles. This particular print comes in three colorways - cream, light teal and blush - and I knew fussy cutting some of the pots of flowers would add to my project.

Flower Pots Light Teal

In typical Belinda fashion, I didn't use a pattern, I just started playing with my vision and the fabrics. I decided to adapt my Dresden Plate blocks to have some points and some flat blades. Once I got started, I opted to make a table runner - I started with a fat quarter stack of fabrics and I didn't know if I would have enough to make a full size quilt. I played with a couple layouts, but ended up using two full plates and two half plates (one on either end). I used Poppie Cotton's Country Confetti for the background fabric and binding. For some added embellishment, I trimmed the center circles and the perimeter of my table runner with 3/4" yellow rick rack. This table runner measures approximately 42.5" x 14.5", with each of my finished blocks measuring 14" square. I am super happy with how it turned out and the soft, springy colors make it a lovely addition to my kitchen table.

I created two more very special projects with the Wildwood Dwellings fabric collection and I will be sharing them tomorrow (Friday, March 21st) on my designated tour day, so be sure to stop back and read all about this new fabric collection (and see my makes!).

Until tomorrow, I am back to work - the project piles are large, and my parents will be here on Friday to spend the weekend with us. They are traveling through Kansas City on their way home from Arizona, so I will have some quality time with them. We are headed to the Overland Park Arboretum to see the new signs of spring and take in a bird watching event. I cherish the time I get to spend with them, so I am working hard to get my gigantic to-do list in order before they arrive. Enjoy the rest of your Thursday and I will visit with you again tomorrow...

Nature Sings Fabric Tour

©Copyright 2024 Belinda Karls-Nace/Blue Ribbon Designs, LLC http://www.blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com
Happy Monday - welcome to my stop on the Nature Sings Fabric Tour - thank you so much for dropping by for a visit. I am thrilled to be sharing such lovely fabrics from Poppie Cotton today! I have some very special projects lined up, created with the new Nature Sings fabric collection designed by Lori Woods for Poppie Cotton. I enjoyed putting on my quilt designer hat and playing with these stunning prints. This brand new fabric collection (shipping to quilt shops this month) has a truly wonderful focal fabric - a bold floral. The entire collection shows a love of nature...and there is a print with the sweetest little birdies! Plus, there are prints featuring roses, daisies, lavender, and flower bunches…and a large gingham check print…all done in a soft, but striking color palette. The tiny details in this collection make my heart smile!

This Poppie Cotton collection brings me joy - it has a lovely springtime feel! I knew a table runner for my large farmhouse table was going to be in the works, along with a couple smaller projects. This month, for the runner, I didn't use a pattern - in fact, as usual, I just started playing around in EQ8 and made it up as I went along. I also whipped up a patchwork project bag and a whimsical pincushion.

To start, I created a table runner with alternating appliqué blocks...one with a circle appliqué and one with a flower appliqué. I decided to offset the rows to give it a modern feel. The table runner measures 48" x 18" and works perfectly for my kitchen table. I used a fat quarter stack with each of the prints from this collection...and a little bit of Country Confetti for the background, binding, and flower centers. I don't know if I will write a pattern for it - it depends on demand - leave a comment or send me a message if you would like to see me release a pattern…

Next, I made the cutest patchwork zippered pouch. I used each of the prints, cutting 2" squares (1.5" finished)...and added a color coordinated zipper pull...I also added a floral ribbon tag. This is a medium-sized project bag,  measuring 9" H x 9" W - perfect for a small pattern and materials.

Finally, I created a whimsical appliqué pincushion - I added hand-dyed rick rack from Lady Dot Creates and tiny 1/2" buttons...plus some abstract machine stitching. It measures 8" x 4" and is stuffed with fiberfill and sawdust shavings. I added some cute decorative pins from my collection, and viola - the sweetest pincushion to add to my growing collection!

Big Blooms - New Pattern Available

Big Blooms ©Copyright 2023 Belinda Karls-Nace/Blue Ribbon Designs, LLC http://www.blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com
Greeting friends! I am back today with yet another new quilt pattern release...and I still have three more new designs I am working on. I want to thank you for your enthusiastic response to my "Big Blooms" large table runner (or bed runner) design. To those who commented and contacted me with such kind and positive words, you made my heart happy (once again!). I have written a pattern and it is available in my Etsy Shop in both paper and digital format...

“Big Blooms" is machine appliqué with traditional piecing and assembly. It measures 24" x 64" and fits my large farmhouse table - it would also be a lovely bed runner or wall hanging. The pattern contains basic machine appliqué instructions, appliqué templates, and comprehensive/detailed instructions with all sorts of color diagrams. This 13-page pattern is designed to use your favorite fabric collection and works great with precuts.

The model was created with a fat quarter stack of Hide & Seek by Snippets of Whimsy for Poppie Cotton (available at quilt shops now) and 1-1/4 yards Country Confetti (Heavy Cream Cream) from Poppie Cotton, plus HeatnBond Lite Iron-On Adhesive, backing fabric and batting. The pattern gives a nice breakdown of materials, should you want to use a charm pack or precuts...or change fabric collections.

This runner brings so much happiness to my kitchen table...and I can envision it created with several other fabric collections (I better get busy!). I hope you will spend a little time in your sewing space making a "Big Blooms" runner that fits your personality and decor.

For now, I am back to the design table - I have several more quilt patterns in the works and a cross stitch model in progress. I will be back later this week with my latest tutorial for Therm O Web...and it is a quick and easy holiday project you won't want to miss!

Hide and Seek Fabric Tour

©Copyright 2023 Belinda Karls-Nace/Blue Ribbon Designs, LLC http://www.blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com
Greetings friends, happy Wednesday! I am so happy to be today's stop on the Hide and Seek Fabric Tour; thank you so much visiting with me. I really enjoyed playing with this whimsical, colorful fabric collection and have three projects to share with you. These were all created with the new Hide and Seek Fabric Collection designed by Kenzie Kae Elston (Snippets of Whimsy) for Poppie Cotton. I enjoyed putting on my creative hat and playing with these joyful prints. This brand new collection (shipping to shops this month) has the cutest bunnies, turtles, gnomes, butterflies and chickens playing "hide and seek" under a cheerful sun amongst fabulous florals…all done soft blues, corals, yellows and sage greens.

This Poppie Cotton collection brings me so much joy - it has a lovely Scandinavian feel to me! I knew a large table runner for my farmhouse table was going to be in the works, along with a couple smaller projects. This month, for the runner, I didn't use a pattern - in fact, as usual, I just started playing around in EQ8 and made it up as I went along. I also whipped up a patchwork project bag and pincushion scissor keep.

©Copyright 2023 Belinda Karls-Nace/Blue Ribbon Designs, LLC http://www.blueribbondesigns.blogspot.com

To start, I created a table runner with a large flowering bloom on either end. This runner is basic, traditional piecing with two focal blocks featuring machine appliqué. I am calling it "Big Blooms," which really says it all. It measures 64" H x 24" W and I specially placed the fussy cut blocks to be right side up, depending on your viewpoint from around the table. I also fussy cut the centers of the large blooms (see enlarged image below). I used a fat quarter stack of Hide and Seek, along with a Farmhouse Favorite (Country Confetti in Heavy Cream Cream) for the appliqué background. I quilted it myself on my domestic machine and it turned out even better than I envisioned. My "Big Blooms" table runner is currently adorning my dining room table and is making the room happy and inviting. I don't know if I will write a pattern for it - it depends on demand - leave a comment or send me a message if you would like to see me release a pattern (and yes, a pattern for my Poppie Cotton quilt "Farmstead Finds" is forthcoming)…

Next, I made the cutest patchwork zippered pouch. I used the I used the "Honey I'm Gnome" print in  natural (see below) as the focus across the bottom of the bag...along with a coral colored zipper and a baker's twine zipper pull. This is a medium-sized project bag,  measuring 11" H x 9.75" W - perfect for a half sheet pattern and materials.

Finally, I created a pincushion with a twill tape tie to attach my scissors. I also added a wool felt flower in the lower left-hand corner, attached with tiny pins in the center. This pillow pincushion measures 8.5" H x 3.5" W and was made by strip piecing leftover scraps onto fusible fleece. It is stuffed with fiberfill and sawdust shavings.
