A Blooming "Love Tree"

Earlier this week, I made time for an evening out with my friend Lorrie - we visited The Social Canvas - a place to "paint, sip, create"....basically cocktails and canvas. The Social Canvas is a relatively new business in our area...they provided the canvas, paint, brushes, apron, and easel - you choose the class project and day and time...and you can even enjoy a glass of wine or a cocktail (or two) while you paint. Our good friend Mary had seen the "Love Tree" class online and shared it with us, but (unfortunately) was not able to attend...I knew Lorrie was already signed up, so I decided to join her...and I am so glad that I did! The class was quite enjoyable - we were there just over 2 hours (classes are usually 2 - 2.5 hours)...they have fun music playing....and I got to sip on a nice glass of Merlot...and although I felt a bit rushed at times (I tend to try and make things too perfect and get behind, so my paint doesn't have enough time to dry), I managed to bring home a decent painting...and more important, I got out of the studio/office and enjoyed a few stress-free hours! The sessions are perfect for beginners or advanced artists...and they give everyone a chance to be creative...every piece was completely different and I saw some wonderful unique ideas. Here is a little photo journey through my evening (these were all taken via smartphone, as I left my fancy camera at home):

We had such a fun night out, we have already signed-up for our next class - we will be going in March...we will be attending a morning class ("Mimosa Morning"....yes, I said Mimosa!) and painting "Poppies"...

Tonight I am catching up on a few work related items, finishing up some machine embroidery, and nursing a head cold that my husband has lovingly passed my way (ugh!). Tomorrow will be a BIG day - it is Bacon Festival (yes, I said "bacon festival"...and yes, I got tickets before they sold out in 3 minutes and 22 seconds...and yes, I plan to eat LOTS of bacon)...and I plan to enjoy every minute!

A Tea Party at ABC Stitch Therapy

I am finally back with another post about my recent teaching trip to New England. It has been a few crazy days playing catch-up after traveling for most of the month...I still have a pile of correspondence and various work tasks to accomplish, but things are slowly getting back to "normal". As of this afternoon, the to-do list is completely out of control, but I hope to get a handle on it over the next week...in all reality, I could really just use a day or two off to catch my breath and get some much needed sleep - but right now, that is not an option.

Today I wanted to share with you a little more about the New England Stitcher's Retreat that was held at the Enfield Shaker Museum (The Great Stone Dwelling House) last weekend. Marie (owner of ABC Stitch Therapy), Tricia (the shop manager), the entire staff at the shop, and Gail and Jackie (the marvelous hosts for the weekend) made sure everyone had a phenomenal time. Every little detail was taken care of, including: little gifts each day, special treats and snacks (some warm right out of the oven), a fun "Yankee Swap" game where everyone got a stitching prize...and even a tea party at the shop! I was able to spend lots of time with each attendee (my favorite part of my job!) - and I was happily surprised to see each of them in the classroom extra early in the morning...and each staying late well after class was supposed to disperse...and many stayed up with me until the wee hours stitching, giggling, and laughing - many finished their scissor fob and some finished their fob and pinkeep (or got a really good start!). The entire dwelling house was full of enthusiasm and smiles and it truly filled my heart with joy!

Earlier in the week, I shared some photos of the Dwelling House, the classroom, and the Enfield area with you - today, I thought I would share some photos of ABC Stitch Therapy...including the grand tea party! Marie recently moved the shop to a new location, just a "hop, skip, and a jump" from her previous building...and the new shop was incredible! There are lots of windows and good natural light - and TWO floors - when I walked in a was completely astounded. Standing in the doorway, there was a "mecca" of threads to my right...linens and fabrics with a cutting table straight ahead...and cross stitch charts, kits, accessories, and notions to my left...with models EVERYWHERE...upstairs was needlepoint heaven, with hand-painted canvases galore. If you are a needleworker, this shop is definitely worth a trip! So here are some photos I took of the shop (with Marie's permission) and a few photos of the tea party (as always, click on the photos for a larger view)...

I think you can see why I love teaching at the New England Stitcher's Retreat - the events, the shop, the food, the area, the accommodations - everything was a treat! I have to thank everyone who worked on the event planning - the hard-working and happy hosts (Jackie and Gail)....and all the attendees who made the journey to Enfield, NH - I hope to see you all again next year!!

In the next day or two, I will share some photos of my sightseeing with you...including some from King Arthur Flour...and a few from Delectable Mountain Cloth in Brattleboro, VT. Teaching at the Enfield Shaker Village

The Enfield Shaker Museum (AKA The Great Stone Dwelling House)
It has been a busy month...and I have thoroughly enjoyed my recent teaching engagements! I just returned from the Enfield Shaker Museum (the Great Stone Dwelling House) in Enfield, NH, where I was teaching for the New England Stitcher's Retreat. Those of you who have followed my blog for quite some time know how much I love visiting the Enfield Shaker Village and teaching inside the Great Stone Dwelling House - it is a location rich with history and full of amazing imagery. Upon arrival at the Enfield Shaker Museum, I was pleased to find I was staying in the same room I have the past couple years...it almost feels like my home away from home. I arrived Thursday night around 10pm, and after a decent night of sleep was ready to spend Friday exploring the area with my dear friend (like a sister to me) Ruth....we headed to King Arthur Flour in Norwich, Vermont....then made our way to Brattleboro, VT to visit a lovely shop (Delectable Mountain Cloth) that our friends Patricia and Lesley told us about - it was a delightful day and I promise to share more with you in a future post. When we returned to the Great Stone Dwelling on Friday evening, it was time for a welcome reception, where I got to meet all the attendees and enjoy a glass of wine and wonderful food...it was quite fun to rotate through the tables and meet all the needleworkers in attendance. One of the fabulous things about the Enfield Shaker Museum - we have the entire building pretty much to ourselves throughout the event - we sleep there - we dine there - we have class there - we basically take over...and what a treat it is to spend a few uninterrupted days with needlework friends! Saturday we had class the majority of the day...I did manage to make it outside during our lunch hour to take some photos...then after dinner we had a very amusing game of "Yankee Swap" with all stitching related packages, followed by stitching and giggling into the wee hours. Sunday we had class through the mid-afternoon, then headed to ABC Stitch Therapy for shopping and a tea party (this was wonderful...and the new shop location is fantastic!)...then headed back to the Shaker Museum for dinner and more late night stitching/laughing. On the way back to the museum, we stopped at several locations on Mascoma Lake where I was able to take some more great photographs. Monday morning was a delicious hot breakfast and we all said our goodbyes...I then got to spend a little more quality time with my friend Ruth before heading back to Iowa. Here are some photos from the Enfield Shaker Village, the Great Stone Dwelling House, the classroom, and the surrounding area...

Over the next couple days I will share with you photos from my adventures in New Hampshire and Vermont...and from ABC Stitch Therapy in Grantham, NH (along with photos from our tea party). It is going to take me several days to get caught up and return all of my messages, so if you are waiting on me, I appreciate your patience...
